David vs. Goliath In A K-1 Ring
I don’t know about you, but sometimes find it quite intriguing to watch a perceived David vs. Goliath matchup.
Maybe it’s because many of us instinctively tend to root for the underdog.
Is it because we want to see the “little guy” win?
Well, whatever it is, we all have our own opinion and thoughts about it.
In this context, I thought it might be interesting to watch a modern-day David vs. Goliath encounter in a K-1 ring.
Here we have a prime example with two former champions:
Royce Gracie (3-time UFC Champion, UFC Hall of Famer and member of the most influential Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu dynasty) vs. Yokozuno Akebono (Hawaiian sumo grand champion and first non-Japanese to attain superstar status).
The BJJ master (179 lbs.) vs. the Sumo master (484 lbs.) and free fight rules.
Watch very carefully how Royce Gracie implements his game plan of getting Akebono on the ground. The rest is BJJ as usual.

As great as Akebono is in Sumo, I believe there is such a thing as being too big for mma. Lack of mobility, endurance issues, lack of flexibility–too many problems for a fighter that size. Contrast that with Brock Lesner–260 pounds and can run the 40 in 4.7, with the same strength as a man much bigger. I think there is a limit.
Matt, you are right on (again).
Comparing Akebono and Brock Lesnar is like .. I dunno.
One thing is for sure, Brock Lesnar is a way bigger challenge for any opponent.
At times he appears to be unbeatable. Extremely fast, versatile and strong etc.
Anybody who gets into the ring or cage with him has his hands more than full.
Will we ever see him fight against Fedor?
Oh yeah, Lesnar vs Fedor. I’d come from down here in Oz to see that. Would hope Fedor does it before he’s out of his prime.
Matt,
Now that would be something, wouldn’t it?!
Let’s see if Dana White can make it happen before, like you say, Fedor is out of his prime.
Thanks for staying in touch.
Totally agree, Matt.
