Extreme Pushups By Fitness Legend Jack LaLanne

By the time Bruce Lee shocked the martial arts community with his fingertip pushups in the mid 60s there was a guy who had already been on TV with his own daily show promoting fitness and healthy life style for about 15 years.

His name: Jack LaLanne.

Jack LaLanne is considered the “Godfather of Fitness”. Rightfully so,  in my humble opinion.

His TV show ran for 34 years and is considered the longest running fitness program in TV history.

Would you be interested to see an extreme pushup by the guy who set a world record by doing 1,033 pushups in 23 minutes at the age of 42?

I thought so.

Jack LaLanne by the way turned 95 last September and is still going strong.

Here’s the short clip I found which must have been an excerpt of his show during the 50s.

Take it easy!

Get Ready For A Western Boxing Prodigy

Hey guys,

As you know, if you have been visiting this blog on a regular base, I am interested in all kinds of martial arts, self-defense concepts, fighting styles, workout programs etc.

Just today I revisited Western boxing which brought back some vivid memories of some of the toughest, but also some of the most rewarding workout sessions that I have experienced.

Now, I will admit that as a kid, my dad would show me a couple of punches, but nothing serious. Maybe you went through the same.

That came later in my life after a number of years of practicing Shotokan karate when I needed a change in scenery by switching to Western boxing for a while. And I gotta tell ya it’s good to empty your cup every now and then.

Just learning the basic footwork can make all the difference.

Throw in a couple of techniques like jab, cross, hook and uppercut, when you’re not jumping rope.

Believe me, you’re gonna feel great about yourself.

Well, today I found a video clip again on a boxing kid or better prodigy that I just have to share with you.

After watching it, you will be either impressed or jealous or I don’t know what. Let me know.

Just keep moving for about 2 1/2 minutes. Enjoy!

Yoga And Martial Artists

Just several months ago I successfully completed a 90-day extreme fitness program which entailed working out 6 days in a row and either rest or stretch on the seventh day. Stretching is what I opted for and that was a really good idea.

I am pretty happy with the results, except that I still have to buy new pants/trousers.

But I guess that’s a good problem to have.

The program consisted of exercises to improve overall strength, cardiovascular fitness and flexibility.

One of the elements was Yoga.

Alright, I hear some of you saying, “Yoga? You gotta be kidding me!”

Well, work with me here.

I am not going to bore you with historical and/or statistical facts about Yoga. For example that it has been practiced for over 5,000 years and as you might know, originated in India.

No, seriously, the benefits of incorporating Yoga in any martial artist’s training regimen could be summed up in:

Develop, maintain and even improve your breathing, flexibility, strength, and balance.

Listen, if Yoga is good enough for martial arts legends like Rickson Gracie, do you think we could find some benefits for us?

Personally, I am glad that Yoga was introduced to me as part of that 90-day fitness program I told you about.

Either way, I hope you find inspiration in this clip on Yoga for martial artists:

Martial Artists And The Day After Thanksgiving, Aka Black Friday

Hi everybody!

How was your Thanksgiving?

Hope you had a great time with friends and family. And if yours was anything like mine, you definitely had too much turkey and all the trimmings, right?

Well, I was able to get some time on the tennis court, but it just wasn’t enough to burn off all the calories of a genuine Thanksgiving dinner.

The disciplined martial artists an/or enthusiasts that we are, we simply call several friends over for some serious super-human workout.

The kind of fitness workout that includes push-ups, pull-ups and some other fitness exercises every serious practitioner of most martial arts such as aikido, judo, BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu), boxing, karate, JKD, Kali, grappling, Wing Chun Kung Fu, Muay Thai, Tae Kwon Do, wrestling etc. usually does on a regular basis.

Just check me, I mean, these guys out. Absolutely mindboggling!

“Girls Gone Wild”, But In A Very Different Way

The girls I want to introduce today meet the criterion “Girls Gone Wild”, but in a very different way.

A friend of mine sent me this video clip that is absolutely jaw-dropping.

We all know how effective jumping rope is. And I mean in how little time you can get an astounding workout.

In my humble opinion, jumping rope should be part of every martial artist’s training routine, no matter what style they practice.

Watching these girls do their thing at The U.S. Naval Academy for about 8 minutes really blew me away.

Maybe we should start a campaign with them as poster children to reverse child obesity and diabetes type 2 in America and in other countries for that matter with similarly growing health problems.

Enjoy the video and have a great workout week after consulting with your physician.
Keep the defibrillator nearby!
